Group Counseling

In addition to individual counseling, we provide residents with group counseling while at the shelter. Group sessions cover a variety of topics relevant to youth and may include:

  • Recovery from physical, sexual, and/or mental abuse
  • Substance abuse
  • Teen pregnancy prevention
  • STD awareness
  • Self-esteem
  • Anger management/assertion training
  • Developing communication skills
  • Pet therapy
  • Art therapy
  • Music therapy
  • Sand tray therapy
  • Remedial reading
  • Computer literacy
  • Life skills

Group counseling sessions help residents develop communication and socialization skills, and allow them to learn to express their concerns and learn from others who might be  in similar situations.
