Youth Development Program Manager
20 hours per week

Position Summary

Casa Youth Shelter’s Youth Development Program (YDP) Manager is directly responsible to:

  1. Develop, maintain, and run the agency’s Life Skills Program (LSP)
  2. Develop and manage the weekly Teen Drop-In Group, in conjunction with the Parenting Program
  3. Facilitate a weekly House Meeting with the residents to offer voice and empowerment to the youth
  4. Manage the agency’s education program for residents
  5. Develop, maintain, and facilitate Staff Led activities for the Youth Supervisors in collaboration with the Shelter Program Manager.
  6. Evaluate and implement ways to enhance and expand the Youth Development Program over time
  7. Attend Management meetings with the Executive Director monthly
  8. Attend Managers meetings with the Program and Clinical Director monthly

This position is directly responsible to and under the direction of the Program and Clinical Director and works in collaboration with the Shelter Program Manager, Parenting Program Manager, and Case Manager.

Responsibilities

Life Skills:

  • Develop Life Skills Curriculum – Continually update and refine curriculum to ensure topics are timely and relevant to youth
  • Facilitate Classes – 2 days per week (coordinate schedule with Shelter Program Manager)
  • Plan and lead offsite outings, bring in guest speakers, and utilize technology to further explore and reinforce topics
  • Document attendance and participation in the client database
  • Find and prepare a substitute facilitator if absent

Empowerment:

  • Facilitate Weekly House Meeting with residents – offer voice and empowerment to youth, encourage self-advocacy and peer leadership
  • Obtain Feedback – document positive and constructive feedback from youth, so CYS has quotes to use, and tangible ideas of what might be improved upon from residents’ perspective
  • Document attendance and participation in the client database
  • Find and prepare a substitute facilitator if absent

Teen Drop-In:

  • Develop Curriculum – Synchronize  with Weekly Parenting Classes
  • Facilitate Teen Drop-In Group – Engage dynamic learning styles, prepare/update presentations, provide handouts and other collaterals to support topics, create a safe environment for peer support
  • Manage Attendance – communicate with youth, coordinate with case manager and counselors to encourage participation, document attendance and participation in the database
  • Collaborate with Parenting Program Mgr.
  • Find and prepare a substitute facilitator if absent

Program Development:

  • Develop website accessibility for Life Skills program to facilitate engagement post-exit from the shelter
  • Identify and implement opportunities for community involvement with Life Skills and Teen Drop-In Programs
  • Assist with recruitment to grow the program
  • Explore opportunities to expand the program via technology, alternate locations, &/or additional days/times

Education:

  • Manage Residents’ Access to School Online Portals – Confirm portal access for each resident (document in House Alerts)
  • Prepare Educational Work – Prepare educational activities (personally prep or coordinate with volunteers) for youth who do not have schoolwork or during school breaks
  • Manage Education Volunteers, including tutors from OCDOE, School on Wheels, and Volunteer Tutors (in conjunction with Shelter Program Manager and Volunteer Corps Coordinator)
  • Ensure staff and/or volunteers are prepared to supervise residents‘ education time and assist with schoolwork and provide support as needed
  • Coordinate Schedule with Shelter Program Manager – including ensuring additional time is provided for schoolwork as requested
  • Coordinate with Case Manager if residents have additional enrollment, educational, or academic needs

Qualifications 

  • Passion for Casa Youth Shelter’s mission of helping youth in crisis and their families.
  • Display energetic and positive demeanor; demonstrate compassion and flexibility.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated analytical skills within the scope of programmatic and clinical education and experience.
  • Creative self-starter with a proven ability to multitask.
  • Ability to work both collaboratively and independently within tight time-frames, in an environment with quickly shifting priorities and high expectations.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications is required.
  • Available to work occasional evenings, weekends, and early mornings.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, or equivalent experience, is required.
  • At least two (2) years of experience working directly with at-risk youth or adolescents in crisis. Experience providing crisis intervention and conflict resolution is preferred.
  • Two (2) years of experience facilitating groups and/or classes.
  • Passage of the CBEST, or similar demonstrated proficiency in basic reading, writing, mathematics, and other skills necessary for Life Skills Instruction and Educational Liaison.
  • Must pass a full background check from the FBI and California Community Care Licensing.
  • Must provide educational transcripts, evidence of healthcare clearance, recent negative TB test, current positive DMV driving record, and proof of insurance coverage.
