Youth Development Program (YDP)

Recipient of Service:
Inspired high school students who want to increase their knowledge of themselves, society, and their peers who are in crisis, while assisting with the needs of Casa's residents and staff.


Schedule:
Weekly training meetings during the first month. Biweekly meetings thereafter. A minimum of 4 hours a month in service time.


Facilitator:
This group is facilitated by Dr. Maribel Contreras, Casa's Community Outreach Coordinator.

Description:
12 hours of training are required for working at Casa as a youth advocate. Training involves becoming familiar with the issues surrounding victims of abuse, learning creative listening skills, understanding the necessity of adhering to confidentiality rules, and learning Casa's rules.

Some of the areas in which advocates have worked include tutoring, receptionist assistance, recreation supervision, special event coordination, publicity, and serving on the Board of Directors.


Goal of this Activity:
The goal of YDP is to help community teens develop their talents in a vital support role that benefits Casa's residents.
